The lips are one of the most noticeable assets we have that adds appeal to the face. But, the lips are one of the most sensitive parts of the body. These need attention and proper nutrition. It is important to prevent it from drying out, chopping, and the worst, bleeding.
Dry and chapped lips could be the result of a harsh environment, too many chemicals, sensitivity, and dehydration. If already dry and chapped, how are we going to heal it?
1. Proper nutrition :
To have healthy lips, you must properly nourish your body. The lips need water-soluble vitamins like the B vitamins and Vitamin C. It is essential to keep its moisture and enough water to rehydrate them. Drink enough water to prevent dehydration. Eat fruits and veggies that are juicy. Focus on those fruits which are concentrated with B vitamins.
2. Say no to chemicals
Too much application of cosmetics to the lips may damage its skin cells. Minimize using lipstick and lip balm to prevent it. Start using only the suitable ones for your type of skin. There are people who are sensitive to the colorant and fragrance of the lipstick/lip balm, finding the right one that is made from natural ingredients may help. Nivea essential is an example of lip balm that has no colorant and fragrance that is suitable for sensitive lips.
3. Harsh environment :
Climate change and pollution can also cause dry and chapped lips. To avoid it, protect your lips just like the way you protect your skin, use some lipstick that has high SPF and moisturizer to protect it from the heat. Keep your lips away from the air conditioner particularly when you’re inside your car, cold temperature, especially from the air conditioner, can also dry up the lips just like the heat.
4. Brushing :
If your lips are already dry and chapped, brushing them softly with your toothbrush when you were brushing your teeth will help remove the dead skin cells. Brushing the lips will remove the dead skin cells leaving the new cell at the top that will result in more healthy-looking lips. Aside from removing the dead skin cells, the mint of the toothpaste will give a cool feeling to the lips allowing blood to circulate to the lips giving it a reddish-pink color.
5. Shea butter
Shea butter is a natural moisturizer. There are so many lipsticks that contain natural shea butter to help moisturize your lips or you can buy Shea Butter at some herbal store.
If all else fails, try to put some natural lip balm on our lips, leave it for some time to soften the dead skin, then rub it off. Well, Nivea essential works for me but I can’t say it will also work for all of us, just give it a try.
Even some traditionally auxiliary ingredients, such as buffalo, can cause allergic reactions in humans, says Dr. Felli. Lanlin, black pepper and coconut oil, propylene glycol, perfume, dyes and more can irritate, so if you feel that the bamboo on your lips is doing badly, it may be time to look at your dorm.
